Olympics

I know the Olympics are over, but I wanted to share, since this event was not well covered by the major networks.
"Brothers Egram and Larry have to qualify for the Olympic synchronized, Feather Blowing competition."

"silver screen star"

I received a birthday luncheon invitation with THIS stamp on it. This is a picture of the "Birthday Girl" from her past. Her hubbie had them made for her...he obviously liked the picture...as he should. She looks like a "silver screen star"!

I wanted to transfer the photo onto fabric without going to the store...

So here's what I did. I took a photo of the stamp with my camera on the macro lens setting. Then played with it in Picasa.

I took a piece of white cotton/poly fabric and spray tacked it with 505 spray and fix, a temporary fabric adhesive, onto white bond paper. Then trimmed the edges carefully to fit the exact edge of the 8 1/2 x 11 paper. Placed it into my ink jet printer. Said a quick prayer that it would not jam up and hit the print button.

It worked!

I pressed it and sprayed it carefully (misting it) with a few layers of scotch guard hoping it would not bleed.

It was ready to be stitiched down along with fussy cut and collaged fabrics, ribbons, rhinestones, pearls and even Glam-Ma's flowers. So there ya go!

I'm anxious to try it again. I really want to play around with figuring out how else to set the inks permanetly...if you know tell me please!

By the way the lunchon was wonderful.

It was a beautiful day,

in an amazing setting,

with good food

and great friends

One Ringy Dingy
Two Ringy Dingy

What my Dingy said to my Ringy today! I have now come to the pinnacle of my life as a mother. My contact with my children is no longer face to face. It is now ear to ear. I find myself forever amazed and somewhat amused by the messages that are left for me. Most of the time I don't even know how to respond. I've decided to randomly post these. Sharing with you for your amusement, while I in turn journal them for mine!
"I fell off a bridge into a ditch yesterday"

"Caseys coming by to pick up my fat suit and chicken costume"

"I quit my job, dropped my classes and I'm moving to LA in two weeks"

"I'm going to eat my ice cream and make my butt bigger because nobody loves me"

(These are true and real statements. No names or places have been changed to protect the innocent.)

Project Blogway

What I love about blogland is all the amazing people I meet skipping through the land. Cyberspace has become an art form unto itself, allowing me the opportunity to collect, create, photograph and journal my art and sending it out into ......humm.....I don't know where it goes into.....I just know somehow contacts are made with kindred souls and friendships gleaned.

That is just what has happened with Lisa at A Whimsical Bohemian. Many of you already know Lisa the creator of, One World One Heart (which by the way I'm looking forward to participating in again). I was immediately attracted to Lisa's blog because she does work like this...

and this...

and this....

It's interesting to see her collective pieces of work because there is an underlying theme ...the human form. So I wasn't surprised when she purchased a mannequin head for $3.00 and added it to her dress form, only to have a complete photo shoot that would put a couture designer to shame!

I was so taken by her styling that the idea came about that we should all do this....
Project Blogway was born.

September 17th the collections are to be shown.

Lisa put together all the details HERE.

Looking forward to creating with all of you...now, no dawdling...

I'm a saver.
I save fabric, papers, bows, ribbons, books, vintage clothes, costumes, and magazines.
I hold onto things from the past each for various reasons.
Why?

Need I say more?

Have a wonderful day and don't forget my Blog Giveaway September 1!
I'm making something yummy!

Flower Bling

You all remember my Mom.....
Flickr photo by Barbieportrait
Her love for all things red, bling, and gold lame' has earned her the title of "Glam Ma" by her grandchildren and some casual acquaintances.

Well, "Glam Ma" is quite creative and has been very busy moving her bejeweled fingers to create crocheted bouquets.

And since I can't convince her to start blogging herself and selling her work on Etsy, I have been the fortunate recipient of a variety of flowers that arrive at my house in small plastic "ziplock" bags.

So I've been finding homes for these colorful jewels.

When I visited Sammy this last month I was able to play on her "felting" machine....Oh My Gosh...if you haven't tried one of these yet you must! There is so much possibility for creating amazing surface design with these machines.

I've been experimenting with a collage of different fibers....

felting, applique, machine stitching, sharpie graffiti, and "Glam Ma's" flower bling!

What I did on my summer vacation

How do you know when you're not in California anymore? When you look outside on August 1 and see this.

This is not only a wonderful table my Sister-in-law painted, but there is WATER on it!
These are not dew drops.

These are RAIN DROPS!

Every time we have traveled to Oregon it has rained!
That must be why Oregon has flowers and gardens that look like this...

and can be planted in containers like this!

After the rain settled we traveled to the town of Silverton to see the
Homer Davenport Day Parade.
Yes, this is an Elvis impersonator...
(Look at the legs draped over the back. I was so taken by the performance that I never noticed the legs until I downloaded the photo!)
and yes this is the local nurses performing in the Bedpan Brigade.
Well, the weekend didn't end there. We had a wonderful Family Reunion with Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. This time we seemed to know everyone. Last time an unknown Hispanic family showed up. They stayed to themselves mostly and no one asked who they were because we were all too embarrassed since we figured we were related somehow! We still don't know.....who knows, they too may have wondered where they were!

And I did what I tell my children to never do!
I met up with someone I met on the internet!
Well, here in blogland and it was Sammy!
You know Sammystuff!

That was Awesome! She took me to two of the Russian fabric stores in the area

and then off to her AMAZING STUDIO!

Talk about overwhelming! I could hardly breath!

Cool art and stuff...Sammys Stuff everywhere!
I even received gifts that I'll share with you later!
Whoo hoo! Summer fun!
