Sha Sha Higby

I was reading the book, Costume Maker's Art: cloaks of fantasy, masks of revelation years ago.
I came upon the most amazing photos of art by
After I picked myself off the floor and wiped the drool off the pages I began a search to find out more about this amazing artist.
Well, low and behold, Miss Higby lives about 45 minutes from me!
I picked up the phone and called information for a number to see if I could get an agent to be put on her mailing list.
Well guess who picks up the phone!
Yep, you guessed it, Sha Sha herself.
In a feeble attempt to compliment her I asked also where she was showing next?
I have now been fortunate to see her costumes suspended like wind chimes in a gallery and watched them in action moving across the floor.
Sha Sha combines her love of sculpture, masks, movement, dance and puppetry all together. Covering her body with paint you cannot discern where the person ends and the costume continues. Through slow rhythmic movements the sculptural puppetry comes to life.
If you ever are able to see one of her performances I highly recommend it.
