Minnie the Mermaid

I'm not too sure what most people think of when they think "mermaid"...

Maybe a romantic, graceful, fantasy creature
that glides through the waters enticing sailors at sea?

Not me! No, no, no....

My earliest and pretty much only memory I have of mermaids

is listening to my Dad and family friend "Klap" playing guitars and singing a song called,

" Minnie the Mermaid".

Have you heard it?

It was after years of hearing this song I began to realize that every time they sang it the words were slightly different.

Later when my two brothers and I gathered to compare notes on what we could remember were we able to put together the entire song.

It was obviously a fraternity beer drinking jingle!

Or as I say to my children a "very inappropriate song".

That could be why I couldn't find it on Project playlist.

In fact the song that I have playing right now on this blog is quit tame by comparison.

So, I dedicate this piece to Dad, my brothers and all you Minnie the Mermaids.............

This is the mermaid I created for Marilyn Butler for the mermaid swap.

I wonder if she knows the song? ~smile~

What a fun song, and this mermaid has such a great personality. The creation is so amazing, and I notice no "A" cup here, lucky they make shells in plus sizes! She is truly a work of art, you are so talented. Karen

You can call me Betty, or Bethany, or Beth ...Just don't call me late for dinner. said...

Here's one my girls sing:

There's Mermaid Minnie,
Met her down in Madagasscar.
She would kiss me,
Any time that I would ask her.
Then one evening
The flame of love blew out.
Well blow me down and pick me up,
She swapped me for a trout.

I still cannot believe that this beautiful creature has come to live at my house! I hope she doesn't mind being landlocked...but if it's any consolation, she can't love the sea any more than we do!
Your Minnie the Mermaid story is so delightful that "Minnie" is how she'll be known. Wish I knew the song--sounds like a good one. I do like Cathy's~tadpoles and teacups~ version.
Seriously, thanks again for creating such a thing of beauty for li'l ol' me! HUGS!
